This time, Inamori eagerly told Kyocera management staff the fundamental tips to train people. He passionately shared his experience and wisdoms that he obtained through his career. The points are as follows.

1 Remain humble

2 Read intensively

3 Be responsible for the future profit

4 Ponder the nature of LOVE

5 Do good deeds to refine your heart and mind

6 Keep holding unchanged value

7 Train you staff as your substitute

8 Personality comes first, not business unit

9 Give your fullest efforts to works in front of you

10 Keep an open mind

11 No ego value

1 Remain humble

Around that time, through KDDI start up, Inamori got opportunities to get acquainted with many business leaders. Over the years, some had become arrogant and failed although they used to be humble and diligent guys. Inamori said, since the personality of the CEO decides the company’s future, we must always remain humble.

2 Read intensively

Some people look through the documents and understand superficially. However, as the philosophy is the backbone of the CEO’s code of conduct, you should thoroughly read the philosophy and comprehensively understand the contents.

3 Be responsible for the future profit

Inamori also said that all the managerial people must be responsible for the fulfillment of staff materially and mentally. What we have achieved now is nothing but the endeavor we made in the past and the future of our company is the outcome of the efforts that we are making now. Therefore, the top management can never stop our endeavor if we desire to fulfill our needs.

4 Ponder the nature of LOVE

Given the food chain and the energy cycle in the universe, I must admit that in this world, we can find love everywhere. An individual sacrifices itself to save that species while the species protect and benefit individuals. As such, we should realize that love has been given abundantly in this world.

5 Doing good deeds to refine your heart and mind

When each one of us dies, property, wealth, fortune, and fame, nothing can be brought with us. Only the heart and spirits can be with us after our lives. Therefore, I strongly feel that we should aim to refine our heart and mind. In order for us to do that, we should think good thoughts and do good deeds. If we aim for this ;thinking good thoughts and doing good deeds, our objective is never completely accomplished so that we can always keep our endeavor to be a better person.

6 Keep holding unchanged value

Regarding KDDI starting up, fortunately, I have got trust from the people involved. The reason why I could get such tremendous trust from others is that I haven’t changed since the Kyocera startup, in terms of my personality. They at least found that I remain humble even though the company has been growing that much.

→ Around ten years ago, when I was working for non-Japanese financial institution, I was arrogant, snobbish, and closed minded. Nevertheless, some have been following our newsletter and once in a while, have contacted me. I am very glad that they forgive my arrogance and have remained tolerant.

7 Train your staff as your substitute

I am very much worrying about you, guys. No one has trained his staff better than I do. You guys look down upon your staff and avoid following up thoroughly, thus your training has never been successful. Be open minded, be flat with your teammates, share your experience and have them experience in the area they find to be their weaknesses.

8 Personality comes first, not business unit

To start the KDDI business, Inamori got a talent and he said. “You have brilliant capability. However, with your arrogance and boldness you would never be able to get fulfilled, your life may end up with unpleasant results. If you join Kyocera, I have to convert your weaknesses to strengths through my face-to-face /on the job training. Are you interested? ” I strongly feel that human resources drive the business, not the other way around. If we can train people, we could achieve everything.

→ In Aikido, master Yamaguchi said that we can’t stop being human so what we should learn from Aikido is human beings. Otherwise, we may end up with learning tactics only. I strongly agree with this attitude, we should think about the human, their personality first then we may have to think of what kind of business we should develop to make the best of use of their abilities.

9 Give your fullest efforts to works in front of you

Inamori said, he has been making the utmost efforts to work in front of us. No matter how much profit we have made so far, I am not interested in the past at all. This is because I feel that all I should do is give full concentration on the on-going work. I feel only by doing this can we refine our heart and mind.

10 Keep an open mind

There are two types of staff: one is open minded and the other is with a distorted mind. The former can be developed by himself while the latter remains “a difficult person to work with.” Business leaders never be the latter and keep changing staff’s personalities.

11 Ego-free mind

People tend to be egoistic when they train their people. They don’t want to be in a position to be hated. But this is not the right attitude. Look at things very simply, getting rid of your own interest, remain open minded, then look at the issues you face. So you would be able to make the right decision.
