This time, Mr. Inamori talks about the theme of “Wrestling in the center of the ring “ as follows.

“-Wrestling in the center of the ring– means that you always think the center of the ring is the edge of the ring and try not to cross the edge you set out. Taking the delivery date as an example, the product should be complete by the delivery date set out by the customer. Instead of targeting the actual deadline, set the completion date several days before that delivery date, consider this as the ring, and commit yourself to keep the delivery date which you spontaneously set out far before the actual proposed date. By doing this, even if an unexpected trouble occurs, we still have plenty of time to the actual deadline, so we will be able to take sufficient measures and will not cause any inconvenience to our customers.

In this way, we need to work steadily while always maintain some buffer to the deadline to remain the safe side. “

Wrestle in the center of the ring – means working with such a buffer.  But some people can’t do that.  The other day, I read an autobiographical essay written by a person who went bankrupt. As Mr. Inamori talked about a lot of examples of leaders rushing around to raise funds, I was thinking about the reason why those people couldn’t take proactive measures with sufficient buffers. Considering the author’s s background, environment where he had been raised, and psychological states, I feel that the following psychological and subconscious minds have governed their actions.

1 Getting funds is the heroic attitude.

2 Sense of victim

3 Takers’ mindset

Mr. Inamori says follows about the business leaders who are running for fund raising.

“The owners of small and medium-sized enterprises are constantly busy with money issues. For instance, for collecting accounts receivable and the deadline for bill settlement they ask others: ‘ If I don’t prepare the amount by the end of tomorrow, my bills won’t be paid and we will go bankrupt! ‘ However, in case he fails in raising funds, he is hustling to find the alternative lender. I think you’ve seen such a business leader. Interestingly, when he manages to collect money and to get his bill paid, he get satisfied and pretends himself as a big business person. Generally, as a business leader, he was supposed to make always his bill paid, and such fund raising is no more big deal.

When I saw such a person, I thought: “The day when the bill get paid can be anticipated, and he should know the fund should be prepared beforehand. However, why does he wait till the very last minutes? ” Interestingly, such people always make excuses such as “I was unlucky because that lender should have provided us the fund… ”. But I think this is strange. It’s not just about the money. The same issue we can find for the delivery dates.”

→ From Mr. Inamori’s words above, you can understand the psychology of those who should run for money. Those who wait till the last minute have the following characteristics.

1 Aspirations for becoming heroes- desire to be respected-

The author of the book I read, the one who went bankrupt, says that in his youth, his father had been running for money at the end of every month. He was told many times that his father had well survived those financial crises.

Those guys think as follows: I can demonstrate how great I am as I have managed those crises.

Then the unconsciousness of the person creates a pinch. Unintentionally, those guys tend to wait very last moment to make the situation worse.

2 Sense of victim

If you are constantly chased by money, the following image will be amplified in your mind.

I do not have any money,

= because I am being oppressed

= because I have no social support

= because I was born poor

This is due to the society and politics….

We are victims, and if we have such a strong feeling, we will put ourselves in an environment where we can spontaneously feel ourselves as the weak. Therefore, you need to change your thoughts and the images you have in your subconscious minds.

3 Takers’ mindset

This is also related to the second.

You can also see this kind of consciousness, the mindset : taking resources from others are granted to us as we are victims. Then, subliminally, you will drive yourself into bankruptcy or you will be in debt. By doing this you can put yourself in very miserable situation and realize you are the victim. This is how our mind drives the reality. We should consider how important our mind is.

Mr. Inamori says like this.

“‘Wrestling in the center of the ring‘ means doing your best when you have plenty of resources: time, money and energy. You should start new business while your main business generates profits. Most people do the contrary: doing nothing during good days and once the environment gets worse, they start doing something, but it may end up “too late”.

Why should we end up such a miserable situation? This is simply due to underestimate ourselves. We should change the world where we live. First, I think each of us must think that “my life is irreplaceable and wonderful.” If you can take good care of your life, you can reduce the feelings of being victims or desperate. To that end, I think it is important for leaders to treat their staff with affection.
