Inamori* has been a very successful and legendary Japanese entrepreneur. He has developed Kyocera as one of the top Japanese companies.

He also developed AU, one of the top telecommunication companies in Japan.

After the Lehman brothers crash, when JAL, the Japan airline, went bankrupt, upon the request from the Japanese government, as a chairman, Inamori led JAL and turned it into one of the top profits earning companies in the world.

When people ask him the tips of his business success, he has never answered that implementing some strategy, skills, or techniques worked. They have never driven him to achieve those tremendous successes. “Only the mindset of top leaders has been driving such a marvelous result in our businesses”. Inamori said.

 

Therefore, the legendary entrepreneur reiterated that the mindset and mentality are the key drivers of business success.

Inamori explained the structure of our soul and mind as follows.

In the order of how easily we can get controlled, Inamori raised, Instinct, Reason, Subliminal mind, and Soul, those are the different stages of our mindset that we must be careful to deal with.

In the order of how hard we can control, Inamori raised Soul, Subliminal mind, Reason and Instinct.

Given those orders, I would like to highlight the following are the key approaches in dealing with our minds.

1 Not get attracted by “fake intelligence”

“Fake intelligence” is defined as the mindset to control others by knowledge, experience, and intelligence. That is associated with ambition, vanity, desire towards power and domination. Inamori explains as follows “Usually, business leaders need talented staff, however, those who look intelligent and capable, under his mind, tend to look down upon the company president. Those guys get tired of working under “idiot king”. They spontaneously become rebellions, control powers, and take over your position to start his dictatorship. Therefore, please bear in mind, you should never keep hiring such a guy occupied with such an ambition. “

 

What Inamori wanted to tell us is getting aware of true intelligence and hiring a smart guy who can deliver his expertise on behalf of colleagues, corporate and others.

 

2 Learn actions to self-motivate

Inamori said, “Leaders never seek others for encouraging leaders, nor force others to motivate those leaders. Instead, leaders need to learn how to self-motivate. For instance, every morning I wake up, I actually talk to myself, – Well, you can’t stay away from it, you should do it, you can do it! Yes, for sure you can do it!! Let’s get started. Let’s get it done!!”

 

3 Analyze our anxieties

Inamori said, “If you want to sell a product, your internal voice discourages you-Don’t try as our competitors have been unsuccessful-. But you should think about, -Is that true? -, -What about the door to door sales instead of store sales?-, -What about the price range?- , you can analyze all of your concerns in selling that product.”

 

4 Keep thinking of one issue

Inamori said, “I would use the expression of -my brain is boiling!!-, as it becomes so heated, I should pore it out to my management team by talking my ideas to them in a management meeting…..what I mean by thinking is not just a one time, we should keep thinking all the time even in sleeping. Meantime, I am sure that you will get hit with a really good idea. We call it -insight-. For us to get such a brilliant insight, we should always concentrate on thinking. Otherwise, we never get ourselves trained in terms of getting imagination, inspiration or super insights.”
