This time, Inamori* spoke about the above motto in his book : Practical Accounting -Business Administration and Accounting -. What Inamori said is quoted with “”.

 “A company is ultimately a group of people. To be a cohesive and active operating entity rather than just a gathering, the leader of the group must be trusted and respected by the employees. Otherwise, no employees would work hard to achieve the challenging goals set by top leaders. To get respected or make yourself understood by staff, you must continue to make efforts to improve your managerial skills as well as personality. Therefore, managers need to work hard and strive themselves much harder than staff. ”

 Here, Mr. Inamori explained how the mental and philosophy work to implement those managerial accounting systems of per hour profitability and Amoeba. What he said may be summarized into the following three points.

3 Keep on dreaming

 

Let me explain one by one.

 

1  Human operate the system

“ People believe that advanced technological and detailed business management systems such as amoeba have allowed Kyocera’s rapid growth. However, they are wrong. Those systems work only when we work based on the philosophy. No matter how wonderful technology is developed, no matter how rational a business management system is, it is still the top leader who makes the entity vital and active.”

 →Top leaders like me tend to misunderstand this point. We often believe that once we have implemented a solid system, everything works well. However, we should consider why this system is necessary, and how it is linked to the fulfillment of each staff. Unless we get people to understand those points, we won’t be able to achieve our goals. I think we need to understand that it is the human desire and subconscious mind that can change human behavior. The subconscious mind is formed via mutual reactions of the two counterparts; what kind of intention or feeling he/ she has its counterpart. As a top leader, I feel that I need to constantly analyze my internal mind and clarify what kind intentions or feelings I am directing towards my staff.

 

2  Inject your energy

“Profitability does not increase simply because we have a good profitability system, but because the people working on site want to improve profitability. To achieve this, it is important for managers themselves to inject their energy into staff. I call this injecting of souls and spirits. I believe this is only the way by which employees are truly motivated. When I am asked why Kyocera is so profitable, I spontaneously answer because our employees work hard. Without energy injection, even with sophisticated managerial systems, employees never get motivated and consequently we see no improvement of the performance. “

→Mr. Inamori also often talks about injecting his energy to his staff, ”When you talk, your energy must be transferred to your staff until your staff look flushed and energized. Only such verbal communication allows you to inject energies to your staff. 

 

3  Keep on dreaming

“Even if a manager is not that skilled, he must make sure that the employees he works with understand his sincerity as a manager. Thus, top leaders and managers keep making  efforts for the company’s employees”.

→I want to become a leader who is respected, and I need to keep my endeavor. On the other hand, considering what the younger generation expects for work and their career, we must make our works exciting, thrilling, and dynamic. I think leaders must take the initiative to drive such excitement. Leaders need to manage based on profitability and numbers, but on the other hand, they need to envisage dreams to motivate younger workers.

 

 

To sum up, top leaders need to motivate staff by injecting energies, envisaging dreams, and approaching their mindsets.
