based on the below statement, I have been discussing how to develop followers.

“Think about the character “making profit”, which is the composition of two parts, “follow” plus “people”, which means the follower. Therefore, to make your business profitable, you should make your followers. Followers could be your loyal customers and your loyal employees.”

Therefore, this time, I would like to make a list of how to develop your loyal customer base and how to create your loyal staff team.

【2】how to create your loyal staff team

the points are as follows:

1 thinking about our roles and reason to be

2 demonstrating execution power

3 bearing in mind that dream, mission, and humanity

4 trusting your people

1 thinking about our roles and “the reason to be”

Mr. Inamori sometimes speaks about Buddhism philosophy, especially about “True self”. All the creatures and existence in the universe, share the fundamental parts: truth, goodness and beauty. We call them “True Self”. Upon such understanding, how can we interpret our lives in this world? Mr. Inamori said” This is a theater play, in which I was allocated a role of top management with some capability. With all those given materials, my mission is to deliver the best performance to fulfill our audiences. There is no reason why that role was allocated to me. Another person could have taken that role. We can’t find that reason and no need to find. Based on this idea, I could never be arrogant, look down upon others, or conduct any dictatorship.

2  demonstrating execution power

To make your staffs your followers, you should demonstrate your execution power. Conducing right things, with no hypocritic. For example, top managements or CEO tend to learn business  philosophy and enhance their humanity. However, this may end up with just taking postures.  I don’t know other business leaders than Mr. Inamori who actually executed Buddhism Monk practice at a Buddhism temple. Putting himself in extremely simply life, asking donation to people, Mr. Inamori was willing to conduct the Buddhism practice and he did that.  I think this was an example of “execution power”

3 bearing in mind that dream, mission, and humanity

In addition, Mr. Inamori says that dreams, mission, and humanity are important for the staff to follow the leader.

For example, Inamori demonstrated Kyocera case.

A dream is to envisage an ambition “Kyocera to become the best company in the world,” and the leader himself work hard to achieve that goal.

The mission is to clarify the reason to be of the company. The mission of Kyocera was “to fulfill all employees economically and mentally.”

Humanity is to constantly reflect on the life formula.

The life formula is as follows.

Life, work’s result = capability x enthusiasm x mentality

Capability and enthusiasm change only in the positive range.

Those who are enthusiastic and work hard, even if they have little capability, will deliver a good result. However, mentality varies not only positive but also negative areas.

Negative mentality is identified ultimately the mindset of “taker”: I am entitled to take something from others. Or, otherwise, being overcautious not to get robbed of anything.

Mr. Inamori says that if you act with this negative mindset, even if you have the capability and the work hard, the result will be negative. Mr. Horie is an example. He was very smart and very enthusiastic, however, Inamori thinks that Horie was obsessed with the idea of a winner: taking everything from others, and nothing could be taken from him.

4 trusting your people

Mr. Inamori admired a CEO of a company in Brazil. A Japanese entrepreneur went there and started his company. He had a very hard time in establishing trust with his people. First he started trusting his staffs. The more he gets opened, the more staffs get opened to him as well. Top management should be the one who trust staffs first. As long as he believes staffs, sooner or later, his people will trust him. Everywhere in the world, this is the truth. We will see this works no matter where you are.

for summing up, the keys to develop your loyal staffs are as follows;

1 thinking about our roles and reason to be

2 demonstrating execution power

3 bearing in mind that dream, mission, and humanity

4 trusting your people

among them, humanity and trust are two most important and hard to change immediately.
