Kyocera made its breakthrough in their start- up stage. Inamori, the founder of Kyocera, remembered why he made such a growth around that time.

“Like a satellite or spacecraft, a crew can enjoy floating without gravity as he is in space, while the people on the ground, who look up at the sky, say they can’t imagine how fast and hard it would be to stay in space. The business administration looks like that. Workers in a well performing and growing company look working very hard from the people working in a non- performing and stagnated company. But the former has never thought that they are extraordinary, as they get used to handling such a heavy workload in their daily work process. This is what we called, –changing the world where we belong to-. Even though it requires tremendous energy, I feel we must do that.”

From Inamori ‘s speech, I found there are five steps to change the world where we belong to.

1 Finding our emotions

2 Filling in the gaps between subliminal and conscious minds

3 Remaining humble

4 Committing ourselves in the diligent works

5 Energizing people

1 Finding our emotions

“I had always been very anxious about our performance, future and uncertainty. But at the same time, my anxiety was actually the key driver of our growth and breakthrough. I never got comfortable no matter how good our performance was, taking into account the negative aspects of our business environment. ”

→ In psychology, finding our emotions and feelings are really good for us to integrate our subliminal mind into conscious ones. Inamori with no hesitation in speaking about his emotional weaknesses as demonstrated above, while some top leaders tend to pretend their toughness and show off their self-confidence. This was a really interesting aspect as a leader.

2 Filling in the gaps between subliminal and conscious minds

“ Once we set out our goals, we should always think about them until those goals are embedded into our subliminal mindset. Once we’ve got such a strong desire and installed our business goals into our subliminal minds, the hints or insights would spontaneously come to us. During our daily conversations, you would be able to ring a bell in your mind-What if we try this – this is actually how subliminal works.”

3 Remaining humble

“Even though we achieved the IPO, or we realized the great success of the KDDI, I never either got arrogant or showed off my skills. I feel this is actually a good attitude which brought us further growth. “

4 Committing ourselves in the diligent works

“Some people call me quite stoic, like a Buddhist monk. However, I personally feel that only the people who always work hard and keep the utmost efforts can bring good performance in business management.”

→ A property owner got very surprised when I asked him for the minimum necessary data to sell his property. Most brokers and agents promote properties with less information. This is the market practice indeed. However, a sales guy, unless he is familiar with the product, can  never be successful. From my understanding, unless we got involved in a Ponzi scheme, no serious buyers would give an offer for unknown property. This is the minimum effort that the professional makes. Regardless of the time and efforts to be invested, as far as the deals that I have been involved in, I have made such efforts to get familiar with the asset. This attitude has made me a success so far. Unfortunately, though, those owners who want to remain statis quo have never got convinced with the reason why I have succeeded.

5 Energizing people

“In our starting up, our sales guy recalled those days and sometimes tells me -when he finished negotiating the client he felt he must come back to the office, as he knew that I was waiting for him in front of the front gate.- and actually, I did. I found that sales guy at the gate, accompanied him to our office, I asked him -how the promotion went, what was the client’s reaction?- Even until midnight, I was waiting for my guys, so they came back to the office…”

Inamori also mentioned that when he was leveling up the world which Kyocera people belong to, they required a tremendous amount of energy. The leader should be the most powerful one to inject his energy to the people and its company. As the above episode showed, he has always been the one who can provide energies to Kyocera people who had been exhausted in their daily operations. Inamori had always fueled his people and company, Kyocera.

So, to sum up, what we really need to level up the world where we belong to is integrating subliminal and conscious by caring for our emotions, to inject energies from its top leaders to staff so that they can change their subliminal mind and keep the steady growth with diligence and humbleness.
