Kyocera actually started its business as a venture business and, over past several decades, it has grown as billion dollars sales conglomerate. Mr. Inamori* has shared a lot of tips to the fundamental attitudes and its business philosophy which allow them to drive such a business success.
Key words are 1 Humanity, 2 Universal, 3 Love, 4 Altruism, 5 Modesty, and 6 Co-existence.
This time, by analyzing business tips that Mr. Inamori shared with us, I highlighted a sort of reasons why a venture business fails. If your business fails to check one of the below, your business implies the possibility to fail.
1 Is the business philosophy based on “The right attitudes as a human being”?
2 Does their business philosophy fit the universal rules?
3 Do your actions come from Love?
4 Are you working hard for others?
5 Does your action come from the attitude “adequately fulfilled ”
6 Live and keep prosperous together
1 Is the business philosophy based on “The right attitudes as a human being”?
Many times, Mr. Inamori has stressed this attitude. When we, business leaders consider what to do/ which options should their companies take, the decision should come from this value: keep always the right option as a human being.
He said, “As Kyocera has put the utmost emphasis on this fundamental value, our philosophy has been accepted by our staffs spread in global areas. Our fundamental value has always come to this point: what is the right as a human being, not as either a citizen in a company or as a corporate employee. Our value has always been focused on a global citizen, seeking for a humanity value.”
I realized why Kyocera has grown that much. During Covid-19 pandemic, as well as recent US presidential election, many Japanese have discussed which country to be blamed, what would be the better consequence for us Japanese. Our life is always like that. Even though we raise such a supreme mission, our mindset and attitudes may end up our simple egoism. Our instinct or subliminal mindset has naturally looked at our self-interest.
Taking into account this principle, I truly feel that why Kyocera group has followed such a growth path in a short time frame.
2 Does their business philosophy fit the universal rules?
This can be interpreted as “Do you think your business philosophy satisfies only human being, or it satisfies the universal rule penetrating in our world? ”
Mr. Inamori, as a Buhdism monk, mentioned only human beings have such an egoism, only our species believes we are the governor and we are justified to evacuate other species. We are granted to have the right to eliminate others.
Under Yoga exercise, we sometimes experience some pause/ posture of animals or objects found in our society. This means that by imitating those animals, we should get rid of our own obsessions. Change our mindset. We have to train our instincts as those animals demonstrate under natural environment. We are supposed to come to this world with such natural instincts but as we grow, we naturally make such functions weaker and weaker.
I believe now it’s time for us to respect other species and learn how to bring our primitive nd instinctive capabilities back.
3 Does your actions come from Love?
→ Are you givers not takers?
Mr. Inamori introduced a book written by American bioethics researchers.
“The word Love in English originally means doing something for others. It just means” giving everything ” and the love gives people without seeking any reward. Give what you have to the world with no rewards. Furthermore, the love-based actions have ultimately been empowered. That’s why great outcome await those who are identified as “Givers”. That research group also published a book entitled Good Things Happen to Good People. In other words, it is academically proven that “Compassion is not good for others but yourself.”
→ Aikido Master, Yamaguchi of Okinawa Aikikai talked about love like this. “Mother feeds a baby with breast milk, I think this is nothing but “love”. They are not giving their milk for some rewards. They naturally got fulfilled by giving birth to them and feeding them. This is also the fundamental value of Aikido.
When it comes to ventures, their ultimate goals tend to be to make money, become famous, and go public.
However, I think it should be Love that motivates those venture entrepreneurs to drive further. I believe, looking at Mr. Inamori, this love was the only motivation for the successful venture companies.
