Inamori shared with Seiwajuku workshop members his view on the theme: the integration based on the staff’s heart and mindset. What Inamori said is referred with “”.
“Kyocera started out as a small factory with no funds, no credibility, and no track record. The only thing I could rely on was the technologies and 28 trustworthy staff. Each one of us had to do our best for the development of the company, and the top leader had to demonstrate the fullest commitment to the management. I also felt that all staff must be truly committed to the work and demonstrate the best teamwork for the one goal: making Kyocera to be a good company where people feel that they made a good choice in which company to work for. People say that we can’t rely on people’s hearts and minds as they are so unstable. However, once we get together and unified in one direction, people’s hearts and minds could be the most reliable resources in business administration. I can say what has driven Kyocera to grow as of today is a sense of integration, unification, and harmony based on the heart and mind of the staff working here.”
Inamori also said as follows.
“ In case, each one of us pursues his or her self-satisfaction or is driven by an egoistic mind, our company would collapse. Only one approach for us to take in achieving our goal is to get integrated together under one goal and motivation. Unless we get connected with strong hearts and minds, we would not be able to overcome any hardship.”
For me to conduct the above in my daily business practice, I should keep in mind two points.

Mr. Inamori also says, “Envisage your dreams with a purified heart and mind.”
In psychology, it is also said that the people in front of you are somehow the mirror that reflects your heart and mind. For instance, if you have a trauma of being attacked by others, people in front of you look somehow anxious, over cautious and intimidated. In that sense, others can be seen as reflecting your mental status.
On the other hand, I think we should keep in mind that we spend a great deal of time working at a company. What the business leader says and thinks would directly influence people who are working under that leader. For that reason, I think I should proactively maintain my heart and mindset to be clean and clear to motivate staff who are working for this company.
Specifically, I would always like to keep asking following questions in my mind:
Do you love your work and are you devoted to yourself?
Are you serious about what you are working on?
Do you keep reflecting on your daily actions and decisions?
Are you humble enough? Are you paying attention not to become arrogant?
I believe those daily reflection and self-check would work for me not to deviate from the high road.
2 Harmonizing with the will of the universe
Even though a leader is well-maintaining his/her internal world, we can’t stop some staff’s leaving the company when it is difficult to unify the direction which each staff looks at.
Mr. Inamori says that he always makes business decisions by considering “whether or not it benefits your counterpart over the long term”.
Therefore at the end of the day, I decide by considering whether or not it would be good for the staff over the long term. How can we assess the effect and consequences of my decision?
I think we may have to think about how much that staff would be fulfilled over the long term. We must think about whether that staff can be fulfilled or not regardless of the workplace.
Inamori says that love, sincerity and harmony flow through the universe. Also, since the universe is constantly progressing and developing, he says that if our minds are in harmony with the will of this universe, we will eventually and unexpectedly be able to get God’s support.
If so, I think that how much we can be fulfilled depends on whether we have love, sincerity, and harmony. It also depends on whether we are progressing and developing in accordance with the universal rules.
In my daily work, I would like to think together with the staff about our mindset. Is it in harmony with the will of the universe? Then we should reflect on the performance of our internal minds, keep necessary modifications on our daily work, and head together to progress and develop.
In summary, the human heart and mind are very important. To care for the staff’s heart and mind, I think that the leader needs to take care of his/ her mental side first. Additionally, the leader openly needs to learn with his/her staff the love, sincerity and harmony spread in the universe.
