In Japan, culture and personality is not simply unique. Depending on regions, culture and mindsets are very different. Especially greater Osaka, we call Kansai area, its culture and values are extremely different from those of Tokyo. For instance, the Kansai dialect is distinct and very different from Tokyo, we presume to be the standard.
One of notable features of Kansai people is the sense of humor. Kansai people have a sort of pride to deliver super funny stuffs to the public no matter what they cost to deliver for it. You can find the following COVID-19 mask which resembles Maguro, Tuna fish. This was designed in a university in Osaka and people started circulating this idea and tweeted a lot.
Of course, this has nothing to do with the commercial activity however, for Kansai people, maintaining smiles and funny stuffs in our environment is extremely important.
Kyocera, Panasonic, Wacol, Sumitomo, Takeda, there are many big companies with Osaka origin and therefore, I think this kind of sense of humor has been a driver to maintain our Japanese’ economic growth.
